James CALDER

  • James Calder is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, co-founder and board member of the Fortius Clinic London and specialises in sports-related foot and ankle injuries.
  • He is Vice-chairman of ESSKA-AFAS, serves on the finance committee for the International Cartilage Research Society and is immediate past Chairman of the International Achilles Tendon Study Group.
  • Professor in the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College and directs the FORCE Centre which conducts research and education into engineering and sports-related musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Нe is Associate Editor for the Bone & Joint Journal and was Associate Editor of Knee Surgery, Sports, Traumatology and Arthroscopy (KSSTA) Journal until 2014, served on the Clinical Studies Group for Arthritis Research UK from 2011 and has been Medical Adviser to Dance UK since 2012.
  • James has built a reputation for treating foot and ankle injuries in top international athletes and is the foot and ankle surgeon to most English Premier League Football clubs, Premiership rugby clubs, many European clubs, England and Indian cricket teams, British Olympic teams, UK Athletics and the Royal Ballet.
  • His main areas of research interest include articular cartilage repair, the Achilles tendon and the biomechanics of sports-related injuries with over 100 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and editor or author in more than 30 books.

Pieter d’HOOGHE
MD, MSc, MBA, PhD

  • Dr. d’Hooghe is a Belgian passionate sportstraumatologist and he specializes in the arthroscopic surgery of hip, knee, ankle & foot.
  • As chairman of the ISAKOS Leg, Ankle and Foot Committee, he heads an international group of experts in the field and as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Weill Cornell University he is also involved in research, education and delivering lectures worldwide.
  • He holds a Master in Sportsmedicine, a Master in Tropical Medicine and also an MBA in Sportsmanagement.
  • Currently he works in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Aspetar Sportsmedical Hospital in Doha, Qatar.
  • Prior to working in Aspetar Hospital, Dr. d’Hooghe spent 17 years as the team physician/surgeon of FC Club Bruges in Belgium.
  • He is the editor of 7 textbooks on Sports injuries and has authorship over +30 book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed publications.
