The 12th International Congress on "Sanatorium and Resort Treatment" Took Place

The 12th International Congress on "Sanatorium and Resort Treatment" has concluded, bringing together leading industry experts to discuss strategic development directions, modern approaches, and advanced practices.

The event was held with the support and direct participation of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation as part of the scientific and practical activities plan of the Ministry of Health of Russia for 2026.

The key theme of the Congress was the role of the sanatorium and resort sector in disease prevention, medical rehabilitation, and increasing the population’s life expectancy.

Over two days, participants — representatives of government authorities, scientific and medical communities, sanatorium and resort organizations, as well as international experts — discussed the industry’s development strategy, best practices of departmental health resorts, and modern models of organizing sanatorium and resort care.

The scientific and practical program included 20 sections, panel discussions, sessions, and master classes, covering a wide range of topics — from digital transformation and improving economic efficiency to the implementation of innovative medical technologies. Special attention was given to the integration of balneology with modern medicine, including the development of regenerative technologies, biomedicine, and personalized approaches to aging management. Particular emphasis was placed on building an evidence base for sanatorium and resort treatment — clinical effectiveness of natural therapeutic factors and their inclusion in clinical guidelines. The Congress also addressed issues of pediatric and geriatric balneology, industry economics, quality management systems, and the development of client-centeredness in sanatorium and resort organizations.

In her welcoming speech, Natalia Zubareva, Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "National Medical Research Center for Rehabilitation and Balneology" of the Ministry of Health of Russia, stated:

“Today’s event defines, as its main conceptual line, the role of sanatorium and resort treatment in strengthening and restoring the health of the population across all age and gender groups, supporting and advancing the overall trend of national goals for a long, healthy, and active life for the citizens of Russia.”

Over the two days, the Congress was attended by 1 279 specialists from 51 regions of the Russian Federation and 8 countries. Experts from Belarus, Bulgaria, India, Iran, China, Russia, Romania, and Uzbekistan shared their international experience.

Among the distinguished officials present were: Zhanna Chefranova, First Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy; Evgeny Kamkin, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation; Ekaterina Karakulina, Director of the Department for Organization of Medical Care and Sanatorium-Resort Treatment of the Ministry of Health of Russia; Alla Samoylova, Head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Healthcare; and Khalmurat Rashidov, Deputy Director of the Department for Cooperation in Political, Humanitarian, and Social Spheres of the CIS Executive Committee.

Concurrently with the scientific program, a specialized exhibition of domestic and foreign companies from the sanatorium-resort, medical-preventive, and rehabilitation industries took place during the Congress.

The XII International Congress "Sanatorium-Resort Treatment" reaffirmed its status as a key international platform for professional dialogue and the consolidation of efforts by the state, science, medicine, and business in the development of the sector.
